LATIN

Our Latin sequence is a

continuing course of

study from beginning

Latin, through all facets

of grammar, and on to

selected authors.

Text:  Late Roman account of how Aeneas came to found Rome.

See discussion of pace and course sequences.

Latin is introduced using a textbook well suited to the quick-minded.  Students begin reading actual Latin authors as soon as possible.

Text Box: Aeneas in Italiam advenit
Aeneas, Ilio Achivis prodito ab Antenore aliisque principibus, deos penates patremque Anchisam umeris gestans et parvulum filium manu trahens, noctu ab urbe excessit.  Orta luce Idam petiit.  Deinde, navibus fabricatis, magnis cum opibus pluribusque socii Troia digressus, longo mari emenso, per diversas terrarum oras in Italiam advenit.

 Benchmarking Your Accomplishment

Student and tutor may decide to prepare for a standardized test, which reports student progress compared to other young scholars and gives hard evidence of academic accomplishment.

National Latin Exam

The National Latin Exam is an easy way to know where you stand.  It has seven grade-level exams that benchmark Latin learning through secondary school.  They’re offered every March for a modest fee (around $10) and in 2005 were taken by 148,000 secondary students around the world.

Advanced Placement Latin Exam

The College Board’s AP Latin exam is for advanced level high school Latin students and is today’s gold standard for high school achievement.  Many colleges and universities give credit for a sufficient score on these exams.

Student and tutor may prepare for the upcoming year’s specific content, which typically includes readings from Catullus / Cicero / Horace / or Ovid.
